With Bioshock 2 right around the corner, I sat down and finally gave this game a play.   I’ve been wanting to play this game for a while now since its launch in 2007 for the Xbox 360 and PC, but I hadn’t touched my Xbox for while and with news of a port coming to PS3 late 2008, I patiently waited.  It was well worth it.  All the news and shock and awe you may have heard of this game I can tell you does not describe at all the greatness of this title.  The game is a year or so old but every gamer needs to play this title. From start to beginning “Welcome to Rapture”, will be ringing in your ears.

Hey guys, Daren here to give you my written review of Battlefield 1943.  So grab your fish, because your going to need some brain food by the time this review is over.

Nothing?  Oh well, fine.

The first thing you’ll notice is when you go to download it, it uses the demo as the base, and when you purchase it, it gives you a 6kb key to unlock the full game.  So if your like me, and downloaded the demo, this will greatly please you.  I literally had the game in a half a second.  This was brilliant DICE.  Good on ya.

When you actually boot up the game, you’ll notice an extra mode appears on the bottom of the screen called ‘Air Superiority’, that in it’s most basic form, is airplane only combat.  The reason it doesn’t show up right away is because DICE made us work for it, and awarded it to us at the 43,000,000th kill.  This was also a smart move, because it gave people more motivation to play the game, beyond Achievements and Trophies.

Ok, so let’s click on the option ‘Quick Match’.  I feel that DICE should have named this option ‘Join Game’ because this is the only way to get into a public game, beyond joining a game your friends are already in.  So we get into a game (not hard to do, just press the button), the map loads, and you press the button to join.  Your then presented with the choice of three classes.  Riflemen (who sports a M1 Garand semi-automatic rifle, attachable grenade launcher, bayonet, and stand alone grenades), Infantry (equipped with a Thompson SMG or a Sten SMG, depending on which team you are on,  Rocket launcher,  Wrench, and grenades), and finally the Scout (more like Sniper, but anywho, he’s got a Springfield 03, handgun (yes, my nerdy gun identifying streak has finally run out),  combat knife or katana, and remote activated dynamite.  Each class is good at something, and they’re names pretty much tell what it is.  However, I’ve found that any class will work in any situation, as long as you’re clever.

Ok, time to launch your attack.  On two of the three land maps you’ll start your assault on your Aircraft Carrier, and use various vehicles to gain access to the mainland.  On one map however, (Guadal Canal) you’ll start on the actual island.  This helps break up the ritual of traveling to the island.

You set foot on enemy soil, thick smell of gun powder, and loud booming of AA Guns make your ears hurt.  Better take the safety off your Thompson, because you think you see a Scout sneaking around the concrete bunker.  “Sniper in the bunker, take cover,” you say in your gaming headset.  “Get a Scout up here, we need to be able to move up.”  You see your team mate runny up, a USMC Sniper.  A bullet flies from the bunker and hits him in the head.  He falls to the ground, his pack remaining where he stood, this body disappearing after a few seconds.  ‘Dang it!’ you think to yourself.  You click the right stick, bringing your solder into a crouching stance.  Ok, ready, GO!  You bum rush to your partners pack and press a button on your controller, replacing your weapons with his, leaving yours in the place of his pack.  You click the left stick and sprint back to the rock you where using as cover, bullets whizzing past your head with excellent sound effects.  You get back to cover and click the right stick again.  You waste no time pulling out your Springfield 03, bring up the scope, and click the right stick yet again.  You stand, and aim a bit to the left.  You step right, throwing off your enemy, and putting your reticule directly on your opponents head.  ‘Bingo’, BANG.

That was but a sample of the dramatics that happen of the battlefield, of Battlefield 1943.  There really isn’t much more I can say, beyond the graphics are good, the sound is perfect, the gameplay is balanced, and this game is amazing.  It’s a 8/10, docked a few points only because of minor lag here and there, and some occasional yellow and black patches that flash across the screen.  Bravo DICE, I hope you have enough money now to make Battlefield: Bad Company 2 even better.

Blazblue Review

Let me start by saying that as a Street Fighter fan I have to say that Street Fighter IV disappointed me a bit.  It was no where near what it could’ve been, but a awesome game I must admit.  It got my fair share of stolen hours.  If you’re feeling a little empty and disappointed at Street Fighter IV, than  Blazblue is the game for you.  Out of the two,  Blazblue is a far more superior game at the end of the day when you look it.

So most of us know that Street Fighter and Tekken are kings of the fighter genre. But this underground gem is a must own for fans of the fighter genre. Blazblue started as an arcade fighter game back in 2008 in the US and Japan.  It should be noted that was developed by the team who created the Guilty Gear franchise. It was ported to the Xbox and ps3 as of a month ago.

Okay so the games been out for a while with numerous ports, from PC, to Xbox, to PS3.  The story is you are a member of the supernatural government issued team, First Encounter Assault Recon (F.E.A.R.), who is sent to track down, capture and kill the cannibal Paxton Fettle and his army of mind controlled super soldiers.  As you go through the game you’ll find out you maybe hunting down Paxton but something may also be hunting you, Alma. The game at its core is a traditional time-manipulation shooter, which isn’t bad, it’s just been done from time to time in shooters.  I praise the game for its story and creepy Japanese movie creepiness (Grudge and Ring vibe to the game). The game gets its negatives in turns of ps3 port for lacking graphics and overall game play.  It is a good game but not the greatest.  Fast paced action and good controls make F.E.A.R. an overall decent shooter.  F.E.A.R 2 is a  far better game, and expect a review of it coming soon.

Story: 8.5 - Pretty good for a shooter the creepiness works great for it

Graphics: 7 – Not at all the best of the three versions, don’t know what happened with this port. More pixels compared to other versions a lot of glitches but I’ve seen worst

Game play: 8 – Simplistic shooter, but loads of guns + grenades + slow mo = funny kills

Music/VO: 7 – Music is there …nothing too special.  Worth noting that the eerie voices of ghost are good

Replay value: 5 - Low

Overall score: 7.1 –

This game is out for PS3 and Xbox 360.  So the debate goes on inFAMOUS vs. [Prototype] and I’m here to end it.  After spending a lot of time with both games (since they both launched around the same time), Infamous pwns Prototype in so many ways.  The best way to describe it is a cross between hulks meets grand theft auto.  The game is dull compared to Infamous.  The story is mediocre, graphics are “meh” at best, and missions are repetitive. The game is pretty much a beat-’em-up with a huge amount of gore and powers. Alex Mercer, the main character, has a bunch of powers and plethora of upgrades that make killing people fun and quicker as the game progresses.  The game try’s to incorporate a stealth system that works but the AI makes it to easy to sneak around, and when you do get caught it takes forever to get them off your tail.  As a civilian you can leap hundreds of feet in the air and fly around and the AI won’t think a thing of it. They are supposed to be looking for a shape shifting deadly high powered monster. Instead, they just walk around dropping the F-bomb.  The AI just tells you to knock it off if u pick a car up over your head and leap off buildings; What kind of crap is that?  Overall if you had the choice between Prototype and Infamous, get infamous. It has far better graphics, better story, and is just better overall. Prototype is a rental at best. Mixing and matching powers is the best part of game.

Story: 7 - Bland uninspiring and nothing shocking or new to this sandbox title (“who am I? I’m all powerful!! I’ll use this power to find out who I am”)

Graphics: 6 – Not real pretty to look at looks like an early prototype of a games graphics.  Hey, maybe that’s where they got the name

Game play: 7.5 – Fun the first time, cool second time, aright the next time, you get the trend here… dumb AI, fun powers to mix and match

Music/VO: 7 - Music is calm when nothing is going on, loud when your being hunted. That’s it. Voice acting is not special

Replay value: 5 – Low, once is enough.  Rental…

Final score: 6.5 - Average (if that <_<)
